Hello!
Nurturing Wellness, Igniting Resilience, Embracing Your Wellbeing
I’m SO glad you’re here. I’m Clare. I’m a registered nurse who is passionate about the health and wellbeing of both people and the environment.
My mission is to empower you with knowledge about your body’s inner workings and with how you can nurture your home (both your physical body and the Earth) to enhance your overall wellbeing using the power of evidence-based, simple, affordable, and realistic actions.
With degrees in both nursing and psychology and a minor in environmental studies, I have experience in sifting through the science behind health interventions and in conducting research. I am fascinated by understanding the why behind how things work, delving into the science that drives optimal health.
I learned there is no single magical fix to feeling my best, but rather, there is a cumulative effect of small, consistent, positive actions that add up to feeling like I can create a better version of myself.
Growing up with health-conscious parents, I am privileged that they instilled in me from a young age the importance of taking care of my body. However, this was something I took for granted until I went to college. During a particularly rough year academically and socially, I neglected my physical and emotional health. Reflecting back on this period of time, it taught me sooo much about myself.
Determined to feel better, I realized that when I made time for the “small stuff” (eating simple nourishing foods, intentionally moving my body, journaling regularly, practicing yoga, getting outdoors, and creating community with friends, etc.), I felt significantly better. My mood improved, I felt fully at home in my body, and I was motivated to take care of my wellbeing.
I learned there is no single magical fix to feeling my best, but rather, there is a cumulative effect of small, consistent, positive actions that add up to feeling like I can create a better version of myself. While there are a lot of factors in life that affect our health that are out of our control, I am passionate about being intentional with what I can do.
It is essential to shift our focus to utilizing lifestyle measures to prevent illness and to finding and healing the root cause of symptoms.
Since working in healthcare as a registered nurse, both at a level 1 trauma center emergency department and at an ambulatory care center, I have become disillusioned with the U.S. healthcare system.
Instead of preventing disease, the system profits off of people’s health problems, with no monetary incentive to prevent sickness in the first place. Modern western medicine undoubtedly has its place in healthcare. For example, if I break a bone or have a heart attack, please take me to the nearest hospital. I am very grateful for the lifesaving measures available, especially for acute health crises and for symptom management that can improve quality of life.
Nevertheless our healthcare system fails us in preventing disease and in effectively managing chronic conditions. Its narrow specialization often hinders providers from addressing the holistic health needs of individuals. Rather than reacting to symptoms and disease after they’ve already manifested, it is essential to shift our attention to utilizing lifestyle measures to prevent illness in the first place. And instead of slapping a band-aid on symptoms, it is crucial to focus on finding and healing the root cause. The body has an innate capacity to heal itself.
Caring for ourselves is not a dichotomy between conventional medicine and so-called “woo-woo” practices with no evidence to support their effectiveness.
There is space where ancient healing practices and modern research-backed interventions can converge.
A space where the interconnected relationship between physical, emotional, social, mental, and environmental health is considered.
Embracing this integrated approach allows us to harness the power of nature, science, and our own intuition synergistically for optimum health.
Our modern world is increasingly disconnected from the natural world, vastly different than the environment in which our species evolved. However, often what is best for the wellbeing of humans is also best for the wellbeing of the earth and vice versa. Planetary health and human health are inherently connected and dependent on each other.
My goal is to equip you with accessible knowledge that simplifies health information and to empower you with tools to tap into your body’s innate wisdom. Through simple, affordable, realistic, science-informed steps you can cultivate a balanced and vibrant life, optimizing both your wellbeing and the wellbeing of our planet.
